"What Would Obama Do?" is not a religious reference. This was just a fun way to remind supporters to remain positive during the campaign, to not engage in negative politics or partisan divisions. This is modelled after other celebrity "what would" sayings, such as "What Would Oprah Do?" "What Would Ozzy Do?" "What Would George Do?" (about George Washington), and hundreds of others. We have no intention of relating Barack Obama to Jesus or any other religious entity.

Welcome to the WWOD blog

It's difficult to remain positive during this campaign! Senator Obama wants a new kind of campaign, and has asked his supporters to join him in being positive, respectful, and sticking to the issues. So I've created this site to help us think before we speak, "What Would Obama Do?"

I am a reformed Republican. My family and I have been working on the Obama campaign in Indiana for many months. I've been a supporter since before Senator Obama announced his candidacy, after reading his book, The Audacity of Hope.

As a Republican during past elections I have been a participant in Republican attack-politics, what I call Old School Politics. Through Obama's leadership, I have seen the light, but it's like suddenly never swearing again - not a quick and easy process. Here is what we should NOT do:
  • Attack other candidate's personal lives or personalities.
  • Spread rumors or insulting jokes.
  • Get caught in arguments about "fake" issues like gaffes, pastors, flag pins, etc.
  • Get angry or confrontational, no matter how others are acting.
  • Use foul, divisive or racially charged language.
It will be difficult, as I've slipped several times just in the last few weeks. Won't you join me in this new world of positive campaigning?

Just to add a couple of things: Listen respectfully to the opinions of others, whether we agree or not. Base our respectful disagreement on facts and not on personal attacks or emotions. Respect the feelings of others, especially Hillary supporters.

I was going to vote for Obama until he started using race in his speeches...they way he says "he doesn't look like the other guys on the dollar bill" and "did I mention he is black?" is racially offensive to me.

I wish he would stick to the issues. I am voting for McCain because I am tired of paying $4 a gallon for gas, and I want to use the natural resources in America to help Americans. Barack seems to be against this. Both Barack and McCain want to increase use of alternative fuels, and conserve as much as we can, but McCain also wants us to be able to use our own oil instead of buying it from foreign governments. I agree with McCain on that.

You are to commended on having a great website. I don't say that supporters should agree with everything their candidate says but if you can't get behind his basic ideology why are you supporting him to begin with? When your candidate asks that you refrain from certain comments can't you support that too? We may not always agree with our own families or friends but if they asked for our cooperation more than likely we would do so without question. Anyway it's nice to see a positive website for a change no pun intended.
